Our Software Development Methodology

SecureVault Consulting represents the best of breed in the industry. Our typical software developers have over 10 years of relevant industry experience and maintain required certifications on an annual basis. We extensively document consultant experience from various industry verticals and client environments in an extensive technical repository system that is directly linked to our ITIL compliant help-desk system. SecureVault’s formal cross training ensures efficient knowledge transfer amongst our team, which results in client time and cost reduction. In addition, we utilize the effective and acclaimed Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process.

The following are some highlights of the SecureVault SDLC process:

  • Control – Places application control back in the hands of business management – not developers.
  • Reliability and Measurability – Through this process, we ensure that whatever coding takes place is reliable, understandable, and measurable, both to the clients and other developers.
  • Proper Quality Assurance
  • Repeatability of Code
  • Reduced Risk with Proper Migration Processes
  • No Reliance on Single Set of Developers
  • Future Scalability
  • Efficiency and Cost Savings in the Long Term

Why Do Software Development Projects Fail?

Based on our experience we have formulated a list of reasons why software projects often fail.

Miscalculated Time and Budget Frames

Clients are generally eager to have their projects rolled-out either on or before the stipulated time, which often leads to developers agreeing to shorter, unrealistic, and non-negotiable timeframes for project deliveries. As a result, programmers are not able to deliver the project on time, instead facing cumbersome expectations to ensure faster rollouts, while software experts focus more on coding and less on designing, ultimately compromising user experience and usability.

Lack of Communication

Another detrimental aspect is the failure to set up effective communication channels and participative environments, which obstructs the exchange of ideas and previews between the project promoters and developers. Standardized assumptions during communication may lead to misunderstandings and subsequent software failure, as standards may vary from industry to industry.

Chasing Technology

Executive sponsors are commonly lured into the benefits of the latest available technology, even though such systems may not be mature or robust enough for the project. Shifting platforms while gravitating towards previous designs can lead to changes in objectives, delays in project completion, or complete project failures.

Development Downtime

Development downtime is another primary contributor to challenged or failed projects. Major factors that lead to software project failure are: application bugs or errors, environmental factors, infrastructure or software failures, viruses, hackers, network/hardware failures and operator errors.

Lack of Periodic Assessment

Failure to adeptly establish milestone points for assessments, or a lack of client-induced and developer-mandated assessments altogether, often leads to irreparable project failures.

Executive Sponsors Uninvolved in Development Process

Because executive sponsors are primarily responsible for a project’s success or failure, inactive leadership or ineffective management of the application development process causes many IT projects to fail. Since they are not the ones with the VISION for the project, Software Developers cannot be in CHARGE of a software project.

Lack of Quality Testing

Self-explanatory.

Business Applications

In addition to developing the Oracle core suite of products, Oracle has expanded its footprint and product offerings through acquiring a myriad of software, technology, and application companies over the years.

At SecureVault, our primary focus and experience has been on deploying and managing the vast majority of the Oracle line of ERP products. We have supported many clients across many industry verticals in selection, implementation, migration & upgrade of the following Oracle enterprise applications:

JDE includes packages such as financials, distribution, manufacturing, HR, and payroll.

JDE financial management comprises the financials component of Enterprise One. Geared towards businesses of all sizes, it serves a wide variety of market segments.

JDE applications utilize the Oracle technology stack as an underlying layer. This stack comprises of the Oracle database, Oracle fusion middleware products (such as Weblogic), and Oracle HTTP server (OHS).

Oracle maintains over 40,000 customers for Oracle EBS, and EBS has been in existence for over 30 years.

Oracle EBS has been upgraded over the years and now utilizes the latest middleware technology using SOA architecture. Upcoming versions of Oracle EBS and other enterprise products will be integrated into the fusion applications umbrella.

Selecting the proper implementation and support vendor is one of the most important steps of a successful ERP implementation. SecureVault has been in the industry for over 20 years, and has a multitude of successful implementations and support engagements under its belt.
